 Collection
Identifier: AR 6135

Scope and Content Note

The Ernest Loeb Collection holds the papers of Ernest Loeb and his family members. The collection is comprised of correspondence, personal documents, genealogical material, and a few photographs.

The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence, especially letters concerning emigration and the escape from occupied France. Later letters include those from the mayor of Mutterstadt. Ernest Loeb's correspondence includes letters from his incarceration in Gurs and Les Milles concentration camps. Other correspondence includes that of Jakob Loeb, who emigrated to Cuba, and Ferdinand Loeb who was also imprisoned in Gurs Concentration Camp. Letters of Max and Sara Loeb discuss their search for their children during the mid-1940s.

Personal [and official?] papers of family members will also be found in this collection. These often consist of papers used for emigration purposes, and include those of Ernest, Bernhard, Adolf, and Jakob Loeb. In addition, this collection holds restitution material of Jakob Loeb and a Star of David badge belonging to Max or Sara Loeb.

Genealogical material, including family trees, comprises a significant portion of this collection. Included are genealogical material on the Loeb, Klein, and Benjamin families.
