Biographical Note

Carol Davidson Baird, born on September 11, 1945 in Los Angeles, collected material concerning her family history. The collected papers contain material about various families, for example the Wachsmann, Karliner, Perl, Heilborn and Davidsohn-families.

The Wachsmann family came originally from Silesia (now in Poland). A part of the Wachsmann family moved to the United States. Otto Wachsmann, his wife Rosalie Perl Wachsmann and their son Franz Wachsmann together with his wife Alice came to California in 1934. They changed their name to Waxman. Franz Waxman became a famous pianist in the United States. His sister Frieda (1896-1988) and her husband Marcus Karliner also fled to the United States in 1940. Marcus Karliner’s parents Moritz Karliner and Henriette Karliner (née Heilborn) did not leave Germany. They both died on May 8, 1945. Marcus and Frieda Karliner had two daughters, Eva and Ilse. While Ilse was married to Leon Green, Eva married Ernst Davidsohn, and they had a daughter, Carol Joan Davidson.
