Scope and Content Note

This collection contains materials pertaining to the synagogue of Görlitz.

The first folder contains local newspaper clippings reporting on the construction of the synagogue (1909-1911), as well as short notes on construction costs and a manuscript of a speech (circa 1914) on the history of the community from 1220-1870. The second folder contains materials pertaining to memorial work for the synagogue, including a programm from the late-GDR period and a packet of historical materials on the reconstruction of the synagogue as a cultural center. This packet includes reproductions of blueprints and plans for the synagogue, some photographs, and a short history of the building. Several Photographs of the synagogue before and after its destruction are available in the LBI Photograph Collection.
