Abstract
The collection contains Questionnaire I + II of the Austrian Heritage Collection at the Leo Baeck Institute. Also included are various photocopied and original documents pertaining to Berta Scheiner’s experiences in Vienna, Austria and in wartime England.

Biographical Note
Bertha Freud was born 1913 as Berta Scheiner in Rohatyn, Galicia, but grew up in Vienna’s 20th District, Austria, where she studied at Handelsschule fuer Beamtentoechter, a trade school for the daughters of Austrian civil servants. She left Austria in September 1938 for England, where she stayed as a domestic servant until 1947, when she immigrated to the US.
Esther Scheiner, née Knopf (Berta Freud’s sister-in-law) was the last Jewish student at the Dental Department at the University in Frankfurt/M. in 1937. She escaped to London, England, in 1939, where she worked in Community Dental Service.
