Biographical Note

Lawyer (born 1900 in Hohensalza, died 1964), representative of German Jewish refugees. He worked as a lawyer for the "Centralverein Deutscher Staatsbuerger Juedischen Glaubens". In 1930 he married Eva Jungmann, a sociologist and historian, who also worked for the Centralverein. He was the initiator of an anti-Nazi propaganda campaign in the last phase of the Weimar Republic. Hans Reichmann was arrested after the November Pogrom and sent to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp for two months. He emigrated with his wife to London in April 1939. He was interned there in July 1940 and released in January 1941 on grounds of his anti-Nazi activities. In 1950 he became secretary of the Board of the United Restitution Organization. He was also a member of the board of the "Leo Baeck Institute" in New York and Vice President of the "Council of Jews from Germany".
