Albert A. Hutler Papers
Scope and Content Note
Most notable in the collection are the weekly functional reports, written by Albert Hutler to his commanding officer between April and September 1945. These photocopied reports include DP camp population statistics, and information on the transport and repatriation of displaced persons. They cover camps in Southwest Germany: Mannheim, Stuttgart, Karlsrue, Bennheim, Heidelberg, Mossbach, Sinsheim, Weinheim, Heppenheim, Buchen, and Tauberbischifheim. There are also survivor accounts, and information regarding training programs for United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration staff in the camps.

Biographical Note
In 1945, Albert A. Hutler served as chief of the Displaced Persons Office of Detachment F1E2, 2nd ECA Regiment, 7th U.S. Army Military Government, in Mannheim, Germany. Albert Hutler wrote about his experiences with displaced persons in his memoir, Agony of Survival, published in 1989. Hutler was born in 1909 in New York and died in 1998 in San Diego.

Abstract
This collection consists of records Albert Hutler received and generated in mid-1945 during his service as chief of the Displaced Persons Office of Detachment F1E2, 2nd ECA Regiment, 7th U.S. Army Military Government, in Mannheim, Germany. Materials, mostly photocopies, include reports and memoranda on the status of Displaced Persons in Southwestern Germany and a few brief survivor accounts.
