Biographical / Historical
Congregation Ahaveth Achim Anshe Sphard (also known as the Elm Street Synagogue) was an orthodox synagogue and the second oldest synagogue in Chelsea, Massachusetts.It was founded in 1900 by Issak Ettinger, Michael Rosenberg, Abraham Herman, Issaak Kauffman, Jacob Bargar, John Brown, and Haris Goldstein. Rosenberg was elected the first president of the congregation. The synagogue burned down in the Great Chelsea Fires of 1908 and 1973 and was later moved to the Chelsea Hebrew School The Congregation took out a $10,000 mortgage in 1909 and repaid it in 1910.
