Scope and Content Note

The bulk of the collection consists of letters to Betty and Morris (Moritz) Moser and their daughter Lore, from friends and family in Germany. The primary topic is the search for emigration opportunities. The collection includes a November 18, 1938 letter from a friend in Basel, describing Kristallnacht.

Identifiable correspondents include: Helene Simon, Gelsenkirchen; Sally and Frieda Levy, Neuried am Rhein; Betty Moser's father, Meier Buchheim, Dauborn (who died in Theresienstadt); Ludwig Gottschalk, Bonn; Alfred Mayer, Neuwied; Gustav Strauss, Chemnitz; Ella née Buchheim and Louis Jonas, Waldbreitbach (eventually escaped to New York); and Julius and Frieda Stern, Frankfurt.

The collection also includes one letter from Betty Moser to her daughter Lore at Cornell University (1949) and three letters to Betty Moser from Nelly Lohr of Dauborn (1957-1958). The various folder includes a handwritten menu and two photos of Betty Moser née Buchheim, one as a baby and one as an adult.
