This collection contains letters to Wallach from customers praising his work (including the Brooklyn Museum) (1919-1959); newspaper clippings featuring his work (1926-1957); an exhibition catalog and catalog of his workshop (1919, circa 1955); autobiography (circa 1960); letter to Leo Baeck Institute describing the experience of he and his brother in Germany (1961)
Born in Geseke (Westphalia) in 1878, Moritz Wallach was the owner of a "Trachten" store and the founder of the "Museum fuer Volkskunst" in Munich in 1920. During the Hitler coup in Munich in November 1923, Moritz Wallach was taken hostage by the Nazis. He emigrated to the USA in 1938 and continued his work as a textile printer. He died in Lime Rock (Connecticut) in 1963
