Goldschmidt Family Collection

 Collection
Identifier: AR 25452

Scope and Content Note

This collection holds an assortment of papers of various Goldschmidt family members, including those relating to marriages, deaths, education, business and legal matters. Most documents are written in Kurrentschrift.

Many of the papers in this collection pertain to family members' legal actions, including those related to property or to business activities. The majority of these derive from Simon Samuel Goldschmidt and his son Sally Goldschmidt. Some of Sally Goldschmidt's legal items also refer to his death and the inheritance of his property following his death. Richard and Heinz Goldschmidt's papers focus on other matters, such as Richard Goldschmidt's military service and Heinz Goldschmidt's professional activities. Heinz Goldschmidt's papers contain documentation on his schooling as well as letters from employers, among them letters of recommendation.

A few folders hold biographical details of family members. These include the first folder of the collection with its eulogies for Emma Goldschmidt, her son Richard and his wife Else. Another folder holds a few unidentified photographs of family members and a third letters from Louis Goldsmith of Washington, D.C., an American relation. His letters, many of which are to Sally Goldschmidt, seem to primarily convey news of his own activities and comment on news of his Goldschmidt family members.
